We raised the existing Sellwood Bridge over the Willamette River and then jacked it horizontally to a new location in which it will serve as a temporary bridge, while we build the new bridge in the original location. The enclosed pictures and video will provide you with a much better graphic than can be described herein. A few facts that challenged the team – the bridge is an 1,100-foot-long steel truss, approximately 25 feet high, weighs about 3,400 tons and it had to be moved 33 feet on one end and 66 feet on the other end. The entire relocation process was executed without a hitch in about 12 hours starting in heavy fog. Click here to view the video.
