About Certification

Certification Overview

The Certified Professional Constructor process gives your formal recognition of the education and experience that defines you as a Professional. The Commission knows you are committed to serving the construction industry in a professional and ethical manner, and can help you develop and prove your skills to meet increasing challenges in the industry. Constructor Certification exams are given nationwide twice per year, every April and November.

The Professional Constructor is an individual who commits to serve the construction industry in a professional and ethical manner and engages in the continued development of his/her skills and education to meet increasing industry challenges and changes.

Certified Constructors will be permitted to use the AC or CPC acronym after their names. Use of the AC or CPC designation requires that the designee comply with all certification requirements established and set forth by the Commission.

Certifications Available

Associate Constructor (Level 1) The AC certification is intended for constructors entering the construction field and exam questions will be primarily based upon education knowledge. The AC certification is a way to prove your commitment to the profession, and to get an early edge in your career as a constructor.

To qualify for the AC exam you must have 4 years of qualifying experience and/or education or a combination of the two. Individuals may also qualify if they are within 12 months of graduation of an accredited 4 year construction management program. Students who pass the exam must submit graduation information prior to being awarded the AC certification.

AC Exam Format: The AC exam is a 300 paper/pencil exam. All questions are multiple-choice, objective questions with the exception of a short writing assignment. The examination is given during the course of 1 day, a 4 hour morning session and a 4 hour afternoon session. Results are available within 1 month of completion.


Certified Professional Constructor (Level 2) The CPC (Certified Professional Constructor) certification is intended for the Professional Constructor who has been in the field for several years. The CPC exam questions will cover both education and experience-based knowledge.

Regular Qualification: To qualify for the CPC examination an indivudal must have already be an Associate Constructor (AC) in good standing and obtained 4 years of qualifying experience and/or education or a combination of the two AND spent two years in a position of overall responsability of delivery for a construction project or a major portion of a construction project.

AC Exemption Qualification: You can also qualify for the CPC exam by having 8 years of qualifying experience and/or education or a combination of the two and spent two years in a position of overall responsibility of delivery for a construction project or a major portion of a construction project.

CPC Exam Format: The CPC exam is a paper/pencil two part examination given over a total testing time of 8 hours, 1 four morning session and 1 four hour afternoon session. All questions are multiple-choice, objective questions. The exam totals 250 questions.

Application Process

CPC Application Process
To apply for an examination you must first complete an online application. CPC Candidates must submit an up to date resume and the Construction Experience Verification Form. Multiple copies of this form may be needed to capture experience from multiple job positions or companies. These forms must detail the required minimum years of qualifying experience or your application will not be processed. If you plan to use education as part of your qualifying requirements please submit transcripts with your resume and form. These documents and forms may be submitted online here. Applications will not be reviewed until all forms and fees are paid. Once all forms and fees are received your application will be reviewed by our Exam Application Review Sub-Committee. This review can take up to 3 weeks after which you will be notified of your application's approval or denial.

AC Application Process
To apply for an AC examination you must first complete an online application. If you plan to qualify for the exam as a student of a 4 year CM program you will be required to certify on the online exam that you are within a program and are on schedule to graduate within 12 months of the exam. If you are qualifying for the exam using experience you must submit the Construction Experience Verification Form. This form may be submitted online here. Once all forms and fees are received your application will be reviewed by our Exam Application Review Sub-Committee. This review can take up to 3 weeks after which you will be notified of your application's approval or denial.
